The Dictionary of Sydney is made up of a small team of part-time staff and an energetic and dedicated group of volunteers. A board of management oversees and supports our work.

Linda Brainwood
Managing Editor

Linda has worked for the Dictionary of Sydney Trust since March 2010. Prior to this she worked on research and digitisation projects at the State Library of New South Wales, News Limited and Corbis. As a freelance researcher since 2000 she has also contributed to a wide variety of projects for Australian and international book publishers and designers, museums, libraries, photographers and film-makers. Linda holds a BA(Hons) (Syd) and a Grad Dip Information Management (UNSW).

Linda works for the Dictionary two days a week.

Jacqueline Spedding
Executive Officer and Coordinating Editor 2013-2016

Prior to joining the Dictionary in March 2013, Jacqueline managed a digital image project for Sydney College of the Arts at the University of Sydney from 2006-10. She has a Master of Fine Arts from SCA and wrote her thesis on natural history archives. Jacqueline has over 15 years of experience in editing, working on a wide range of publishing projects in the corporate, legal, government, community and education sectors. She was the Executive Officer of the Dictionary between February 2016 and June 2017.

Stewart Wallace
Project Manager, 2006-2010 and ongoing consultation

Stewart was Project Manager from the establishment of the Dictionary in May 2006 to September 2010. He was engaged by the Dictionary again on the project’s second Australian Research Council Linkage from 2010 -2012 to work with the University of Sydney and other partners. He continues to provide ongoing technical consultation, most recently on the migration of the project to the State Library of NSW.
