Please consider making a donation today

As of December 2016 the Dictionary of Sydney has no ongoing funding.

More than ever, for the Dictionary to flourish, we rely upon the goodwill and generosity of our supporters.

Below is a list of possible ways your donation might help the Dictionary thrive.

We are grateful to the City of Sydney for their support over the last ten years and for their help in migrating the Dictionary to the State Library of New South Wales.

Small donations keep things ticking along and let us do what we do best: provide free content to your classrooms, homes and mobile devices.

Fund an entity.  Entities are the building blocks of the Dictionary of Sydney. They are the individual records for the people, places, artefacts, natural features, buildings, structures, events and organisations that appear in the Dictionary, and link all of the related content in one place.

Fund a short entry. Our entries range from 300 words to over 3,000. Some stories are short but great. Why waste words and time?

Fund an entry. For this amount we will illustrate the entry and link it to all our related entities and other content. This is where the magic happens in the Dictionary and what makes it truly special. As one example, our goal is to have an entry on every suburb in Sydney. Did you know there are 712 suburbs in Sydney – some you may never have heard of! We have a long way to go.

$10,000 Fund a small project or help us develop new content for our app. We have tours of Old Irish Sydney, Convict Parramatta, Sydney Harbour Islands and Randwick Heritage sites. What would you like to see?

Fund a suite of content. Did you like our Cooks River and Georges River projects? Sydney is the city and region of waterways and they all have fascinating histories. We’ve been eyeing the Nepean for some time…then there is the Hawkesbury

Fund a part-time position.  The Dictionary needs staff to make the magic happen! We need funding for core staff, as well as special project teams. Education is also calling. We have developed resources but have limited capacity to expand or promote these to schools.

Become a major supporter. $200,000 is a baseline for the Dictionary to operate annually with a small team of part-time staff.
